America’s Cup & Jules Verne Trophy
America’s Cup – D-5
- First round Monday 8th at 10h06 (local time)
- USA-17 has been authorized by the International Jury to use aboard the famous laser binoculars to estimate how is the wind blowing up to 1 000 meters from the boat, and also, a mysterious and top-secret system to reduce friction forces under floats. Made by 3M, it could be inspired by «riblets» used on “Stars and Stripes” in 1986, or the dynamic of a golf ball (golfers: try your drive with a perfectly polished ball to understand…).
- Another record: Both teams already spent about 50 millions dollars in court/attorneys cost…
Jules Verne Trophy
- After 3 days, with a lead of nearly half a day over the reference time, Franck Cammas and his nine crew are now aiming for a suitable point of entry to enable them to rapidly traverse the Doldrums.
- Average speed is about 30 knots so far. Still more than 22000 miles to go… 40/45 days?
