Trapez Breen and her Dolly Deluxe were confirmed as 2010 Champions after they defeated Chad Sawson (Texas Twister) in the final stage of the 33rd ACA SL CUP.
In the consolation final, nobuko Criss (Engine’s) defeated takabou Destiny (Destiny 2).
We will comment these races more in detail later, and you will be able to relive them on video. .COM presents here the final table of the results, and is pleased to echo the following recap by the great Naeve Rossini herself:
Congratulations Trapez Breen! Earlier today, Trapez took the SL ACA Cup, winning it for Triumphal Yacht Club and claiming her rightful spot as champion.
RECAP
- In Group A, Chad Sawson (Starboards) won the start and then sailed a flawless race to hold the leald over KazumaHs Destiny the entire way. Chad Sawson 11:27, KazumaHs Destiny 13:00
- In Group B, Leon Falta (Ocean Atlantique) suffered some equipment trouble and a crash, resulting in a restart. In the second race, both boats nearly crossed over the line early and made turns around the line before hitting the legal starts. Once again, nobuko Criss (Tradewinds) rose victorious against Leon, who unfortunately crashed a second time. nobuko Criss 12:11, Leon Falta DNF
- In Group C, we saw Trapez Breen (Triumphal) up against Silber Sands. Silber Sands was lost to a crash near the first tack. The second race started similar to the first, with Trapez winning the start and ultimately winning the match. Trapez Breen 10:44, Silber Sands 11:01
- In Group D, takabou Destiny and Joly John crossed the line almost at the same time and then promptly split on opposite tacks. By the time the rejoined each other at the first mark, takabou was a head and he held the lead until the very end. takabou Destiny 11:21, Joly John 11:31
Moving to the semifinals:
- Trapez Breen 10:48 takabou Destiny 11:21
- Chad Sawson 10:56 nobuko Criss 11:20
In the Consolation Final, takabou won the start, but sailed just barely ahead of overlap with nobuko. At the first tack, though, takabou came out at an odd angle and that one turn put him off course enough that he ceded the lead to nobuko and was never able to recover from it. nobuko Criss 12:17 takabou Destiny 12:40
In the Championship race, Chad and Trapez came across the line together and too the entire first leg overlapped. At some point, though, someone had to give. Chad tacked into Trapez and collided with her. Trapez tacked while Chad did a 360. Although he was able to regain some of the ground he lost, Chad was never able to close the entire distance and Trapez sailed in to the win and the trophy.

The Final Bracket:
Congratulations to Trapez Breen, Chad Sawson and nobuko Criss, our top three winners. They each received custom sail packages from Caf Binder and a surprise, ACA 3.0′s when they are finally released!
You can read Florencia’s speech at ACA Island here.
Dil Spitz and Orca Flotta were both taking pictures of the event (you can find their galleries by clicking on their names).
Finally, we had the pleasure of having MarkTwain White and Nber Medici filming the races of the tournament and they will be screening their highlight reel during the MarkTwain White Show next Saturday, 13 February.

What exciting races! Congratulations to all the participants and to Trapez for the overall win. And many thanks to Bea for the quick commentary.
Cross-posted from ORG:
Some of the video Nber and I shot of the SL-ACA Cup that am looking at in the editing process makes the hair stand up on my neck (do NOT try and imagine that).
It looks like there will be two full videos covering the Fleet Races and two or three to cover the Quarters, Semis, and Finals.
They will all be premiered at the
MarkTwain White Show
next Saturday night at 6pm
at the Hollywood Bowl.
And another exciting video will follow those. Nber and I videoed extended start sequences for most of the races, especially the Quarters thru Finals. Many of them from the -2:00 mark. These will be compiled in a future video for study, teaching, and just damn good fun watching great racing.
… and again, even if it might sound a bit uptight, I need to state Trapez didn’t race for TYC but TrYC
They have the fantabulous, and ever growing in popularity, boat shows … and we have THAT CUP!!! lol
TrYC or treat
Great recap Bea!
Congrats to Trapeze! I look forward to giving her a run for her money in the future and know that Nobuko has the same attitude towards me too!
My personal kudos go out firstly to ALL the skippers that took part in the races and the hours of practice and study they committed to be in the competition. Second to the ACA 33 committee that developed, organized and managed a wonderful event.. Third, to all those enthusiastic spectators and behind the scenes folks passionate about community competition and, all their support. Everyone in this community benefitted from this united energy!
I am honored and proud to be Co-Commodore of Starboards Yacht Club. But above that, I am proud that Starboards is unbiasedly able to bring value to our community, sister clubs and our guests. However, from my personal perspective, this was NOT a club competition and recognition of the sailors that participated should take the spotlight, not what club they are affiliated with. Most highly active sailors are members of multiple clubs or groups, including me.
ACA Skippers! You Rock!
ACA33 Committee! You Rock!
And above all, the sailing community ROCKS!
The reference to Tradewinds has been corrected to Triumphal in the above article. Let us know if we missed it anywhere else on COM. Sorry about that.
