Need a Date? SLSailing.com can help!

December 7th, 2007 · 9 Comments

While I was sitting in my usual spot on the NYC porch a few weeks ago, I finally had a chance to reply to all the email I’ve received about this website.
A terse, but urgent message sent under the nom de plumePensive Mission” captured my attention:

“Dear Dot Com,
 I need a date.
Can SLSailing.com help?”

The request’s raw poignancy struck a chord.
Pensive was correct; SLSailing.com should help sailors with dates.

I’m therefore extremely happy to say, after much hard work and discussion,  that SLSailing.com now has its own Google Calendar!!
You’ll see the menu link in the left hand column, and find all the details on the Calendar page.

The Public Google Calendar is designed to integrate with your desktop, and it should make the schedule of SL Sailing events readily available online to any sailor.  Actually, it will be available to nearly anyone with access to a web browser or even a hand-held, independent of species
Staying in touch with Google is another small step in the combined effort to make SL Sailing as widely accessible in “Real Life” as it is in “Second Life.”

Oh! If you see Pensive? He probably still needs a date….

In point of fact, I *do* still need a date — clicking on the link takes me to a *totally* awesome 401 page but, alas, not to a calendar (or even an online dating webpage).

PS: Jane! After going through *hell* together, how *could* you???

    Hi Pensive!

Although I doubt most people would characterize the experience of clicking a broken hyperlink as “going through hell together,” we all know that you feel strongly about such things.

Besides, as far as I can tell the link to the calendar works, so I’d remind you of Winston Churchill’s exortation:
If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

In the off-chance you’ve configured your browser in some truly arcane fashion, the direct link to the page is:
    http://slsailing.com/sl-sailing-calendar .

Failing that, you can always find the calendar by searching Google for the “SL Sailing Race and Events Calendar” .

We appreciate this is difficult, but please remember all your fellow SL sailors are rooting (or wooting?) for you.

Have courage, Pensive, and we’ll leave the light on.

While the last thing I want to do is get involved in Pensive’s love life, I should point out that the links in the main article point to sailing.com in one case (instead of slsailing.com).

In the other case Jane can reach the calendar from the link provided since she has permission to access /wp-admin while Pensive does not (check the url).

a direct link would look like this

    http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?065j51i7rgaqkfv271073ts7lo%40group.calendar.google.com

whats the link to this for this calendar

Thanks to MarkTwain for reminding me (again) that there is a difference between Sailing and SLSailing!
And Surfwidow is right. There are directions on the calendar page that explain how to open it as a separate Google link, but I’ll add the url there as well.

I know you want people to visit this site to see the calendar but some of us would like to integrate a small window into our desktops or mobile devices so just want the link

i cant seem to find it - a simple full unedited hyperlink would be great then i can click visit and bookmark it

    thanks

only snag with google is it needs people to possess a google account to function properly really

this is a barrier for a lot of potential sailors - there are many PHP and CGI addon type calendars that can be more easily accessed

or does evetone now have a google account - i have one but its more hassel to look at than this site :)

oh and guess what your quote of the day was hehehe how apt

    Quote of the Day
