Passages In Treacherous Waters

March 30th, 2008 · 3 Comments

The fourth Passages contest was held on Saturday, March 29. Eleven boats sailed off into the treacherous waters of the Southern United Sailing Sims. Seven boats returned. The most interesting of the DNFs (did not finish) was two-time Passages winner Epicurus Emmons who in in a moment of panic (or temporary insanity) double clicked on the big map to find his postion and instead launched himself on a multiple sim TP. Returning to the startline sans boat he was mumbling about jumping from the roof of SYC in an attempt to end it all. He was reminded that you can’t die in SL. So he just continued to mumble for a few minutes.

From the Flickr set of the eventThe top two finishers of the day both took the eastern option. Oliphant Ming outclassed the field with a time of 49.61 minutes (digital minutes). Second place went to fellow easterner Croco Capalini at 51.23 minutes.

Third and fourth went to two captains taking the western option: Bato Brendel at 52.88 minutes and Jane Fossett at 53.46 minutes. Rounding out the Tradewind captains were Yuu Nakamichi at 53.65 minutes (easterner), and Kentrock Messmer at 63.51 minutes (westerner).

The lone non-Tradewinds captain was ZATZAi Asturias who turned in a slick 41.58 minutes in a Tetra 35.

Whoo Hoo Epi! It feels so good to know I’m not the only one who accidentally teleports across the grid while in the middle of sailing..oh next time don’t run back to Starboards to contemplate jumping.. just find the closest mall and walk around shopping with the yacht still attached to your waist and act completely unaware its attached to you for a little while. theres always another race .. another day.

How on earth do you folks get times like that, other than sailing other boats than the tradewind…
