SYC Line Opens Up

September 23rd, 2008 · 5 Comments

SYC continues to improve their startline when on Tuesday evening they used an enviromentally safe 50 megaton device to sink Santa Rosa Island. “This totally opens up the right side of the start line”, said SYC Rear Admiral MarkTwain White. “We should have done this a long time ago”.

“Thank God the USS isn’t a democracy” White went on to say. “Can you imagine the forum discussions, debates, IM wranglings, and the humorous whining  those who mistakenly think the USS is publicly owned and administered would has subjected us to? There is a lot to be said for benevolent dictatorships” said White, his tongue firmly ensconced in his cheek.

Along with the opening of the start area, SYC announced another new race course designed specifically for the new Trudeau 20 sailboat. The new course, the Mini-Olympic provides a shorter course more suited to the Trudeau 20 with its full keel characteristics. The course is similar to the New Olympic, but the top mark with be the “black and blue” mark and the reach mark with be the white mark.

What will make this course a LOT of fun is to see how skippers deal with the run from the reach mark, past Catalina, to the bottom mark (purple/black). There are three tracks a skipper can take. One will be through the main gap at Catalina. The other two tracks go west of the island, one inside and one outside of the Western Cat Rock.

MarkTwain announced that Rikk Lovell showed great flexbility when served eminent domain papers and was made an offer he couldn’t refuse to move his domain from Santa Rosa to Santa Cruz.

Isn’t this the second time Santa Rosa’s been nuked, at least?

How do we know it won’t come back? :)

Well Elisha, change IS a constant :)…but I think that the reaction to the more open space at the start line is uniformly positive. I think you are thinking of a nuking party in what is now Newport.
