Passing the Cup (part II)

November 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

OK, I promised you two more reasons why I thought the TC 2007 was important. Here we go:
#3: Racing Rules. MarkTwain White deserves another shout-out here for his emphasis on Racing Rules in TC 2007.
The goal of SL Racing, I guess, is to develop an online experience that closely matches a real-life sailboat race. [...]

Passing the Cup (part I)

November 20th, 2007 · 3 Comments

The Tako Cup 2007 is now in the history books, but I’m still musing about it. I think TC 2007 was a real watershed event that will have a lasting impact on SL racing; I don’t want it to slip by too quickly without some comment and discussion. To paraphrase Samuel Johnson (or maybe it [...]

Under a Pirate Sky

November 16th, 2007 · 6 Comments

The numerous designers and organizers and patrons of sailing in SL have done a grand job of bringing us as close to the RL experience of sailing as is technologically feasible…given what we have to work with. A big part of sailing - the sense of community, the thrill of competition - stems from [...]

November 12th, 2007 · 6 Comments

On Friday afternoon Bismark Sea was awash with Tako sails as the usual suspects once again converged on the NYC start line for Friday “Last Call” Tako Races.

Armchair Binder wins Tako Cup 2007

November 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Under treacherous SL conditions and unstable Linden seas, Armchair Binder today prevailed over Hans Zinnemann 3:1 to take the Tako Cup 2007 by a unanimous decision of the Race Committee.

The sea conditions today often made the final match more about survival skills than racing tactics. Over the next few days we’ll be posting many of [...]

WOOT!

Pardon me, I’m excited.  I had a chance to see the Friday PM Tako Races today at NYC.
Glida Pilote usually attracts a big fleet, and today was no exception.
Chaos Mandelbrot, Konradin Kappler, Francois Jacques, Glida Pilote, Glorfindel Arrow, Daizy Dovgal, Qwerty Freenote, and a new sailor, Frapp Graf, all came to test their speed, skill and [...]

Pure Innovation (and proud of it)

November 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

Everywhere we turn these days…the word “innovation” applied to all manner of things from kitchen sponges to plasma televisions. Everyone and everything is “innovative” no matter how mundane or, at the other end of the spectrum, technically complex. More often than not these innovative products and services in the marketplace are, in large [...]
