It’s been awhile since I posted an original piece here. If they paid better maybe I would post more often. OK, so clear the dock, here comes our catch.

The Road Leading Forth

It’s funny how things start. I have no idea how it was that I discovered how pervasive sailing in our world was. It’s not something very many furries seem to do, unless they follow military discipline, or are pirates (arr!). Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, it’s not because cats are afraid of [...]

Spitzing on the Fleet

I know Lex Lian has covered this territory before, and I know I’ve mentioned D. Spitz’s Windlight images of sailboat races more than once in my own commentaries, but… WOW!
Run, don’t walk… Better yet, sail on over to D. Spitz’s SL Sailing images. They are pure inspiration.

Sailor? Has a shadow fallen over your hull making you feel listless and leeward? Do you find yourself pulling up the sheet because your jib just isn’t stiff anymore, and it’s getting hard to keep your spinnaker inflated?
Well, never fear; I’ve got something new for you! This past month Armchair Binder (#AC01) kicked off the new NYC Tuesday Night ACC Sailboat Races. [...]

Not For Sail

Last night it happened.
It’s never happened before; It may never happen again.
I can’t tell you much, it happened fast. You better ask Armchair Binder about it.
I think Taku Raymaker, JC Keppler, Francois Jacques and Hpathe Boucher were there too, but frankly they were all wearing helmets.
Hydroplane Races…
That’s what they called it.

You get to the start line late, you rez your boat and jump in. The clock starts and you raise sail, but suddenly you realize something’s wrong; you don’t have race wind! So you flounder around, clicking on the windsetter, crisscrossing the start line, re-rezzing your boat, or even resetting your scripts. Eventually something works and [...]

Blue Hill in Bar Harbor - a Sailors Refuge

I was dancing over at the Mowry Bay YC the other night and ran into MTW…who readily acknowledged that I’ve been a little scarce on column posting lately. Thank heavens for Calamity Jane Fossett! She’s been carrying these pages. I have no real excuse save it’s that time of year - Merry [...]

Turning in the Widening Gyre

I love watching the Sunday Big-Boat Races at NYC. From high above you get a truly remarkable view of the tall ships as they maneuver over the race course, jockeying back and forth for position. But that’s not really what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about something much more serious… The [...]
