I probably sound like a broken record. Both here and on SAIL ON I have been talking about exciting things that are coming to SL Sailing. Well let me count the ways….
1. Nine New Sims
Svar Bekersted has placed an order for eight new sims today. We should seen them appear in world very soon. The [...]

Not Just Another Pretty Face

When Verkin Ravin’s Tetra 35 v1.0 was released, I was one of the first standing in line to buy it. If you’ve followed Verkin’s efforts in SL, you know he’s a wonderful artisan; his boats are full of highly realistic and often humorous details. My Tetra v1.0 looked just like the real-life 35ft cruisers I’ve sailed, and it is one of the [...]

Big Boats Double Down
January 27th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Last Sunday’s Big-Boat races attacted another large crowd of majestic, classic ships to NYC’s Bismarck Sea Startline. The Southwestern United Sailing Sims are a great place to hold these races, given the large number of free prim reserved for sailing boats.
Unfortunately, as these races become more popular, the lag at the start line in Bismarck Sea increases as well.

Things are getting so exciting all over SL Sailing! The Flying Fizz is coming into it’s own. New “vessels” (see Sea Stories below) have been released or are about to be released (Jacqueline’s much anticipated square rigger). New sims are about to be added to the USS-SL. Just a teaser folks. More to follow.
And here [...]

Several weeks ago a group of us were sitting around the table on the terrace of Nantucket Yacht Club, knocking back a few and talking about the wind. Jane Fossett asked, “do all boats in a given race feel the same variation of wind at the same time?” A simple question, yet a critical one, [...]

[Ed. Note: Ever since I met Surfwidow at the ACA-SL Cup when she transformed from a frustrated Cup racer into a talented Cup Videographer I have enjoyed watching her develop into a premier content and event provider for the SL sailing community. I am pleased to see Delinda choose Surfwidow for her current interview. - MTW]

Off To A Good Start
January 18th, 2008 · 3 Comments
This week Liv Leigh and Armchair Binder both posted comments emphasizing Start Line issues as part of racing strategy. I agree; as Liv pointed out, a good start is pretty critical for a winning race. In fact, this was so obvious in the recent Tako Cup Challenge that MarkTwain White altered the Start rules so that skippers [...]

Sizing Up the Zone

Hi! You don’t need to read this article!
Not that you ever thought you needed to read anything else I ever wrote, but the only thing I’m going to say today is something really silly. Nonetheless, I think this bears repeating: Big Boats need more room to turn than Little Boats.
Got that? Good!
Since I get paid by [...]
