Passages In Treacherous Waters

March 30th, 2008 · 3 Comments

The fourth Passages contest was held on Saturday, March 29. Eleven boats sailed off into the treacherous waters of the Southern United Sailing Sims. Seven boats returned. The most interesting of the DNFs (did not finish) was two-time Passages winner Epicurus Emmons who in in a moment of panic (or temporary insanity) double clicked on [...]

Showtime for Havok 4!

March 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Smile. You knew this was coming…
As a public service, I’m reposting Owen Oyen’s recent announcement about Havok 4 implementation on the main grid:
Folks,
It appears the finish line has arrived.
LL is taking Havok 4 live this coming week — probably to hit an end of fiscal quarter deadline.
I perhaps should not have even said [...]

March 30th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Waypoint Yacht Club has much to celebrate, and yesterday they threw a great party.
The cherry blossom season in Japan began early this year on March 22, and Waypoint this weekend took the opportunity to hold a hanami in celebration.
Although few of us were aware, the party was for more than the cherry blossoms; it [...]

Passages #3

March 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

The third edition of Passages took to the waters of the Southern United Sailing Sims today when nine Tradewind brigatines set sail. Of the nine boats, one ended up retiring due to SL problems (Bea Woodget) and another (Kentrock Messmer) did not correctly complete his chosen course, but he finished with a great time. Grin.
Of [...]

10 Boats Went to Sea

March 19th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Ten boats set sail from Hollywood last Saturday morning. The morning was bright and clear. The crews were in high spirits. With that many Tradewind brigantines on the water it was no wonder that as race director I had my doubts how the start would go. Well, it went GREAT.
Before the crews raised anchor and [...]

Wake Me…

March 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

We lifted anchor in the predawn darkness and raised the sails, turning Amaya around. It was chilly. I had fur at least. The sky was unusually bright, and the water sounded somehow muffled past the hull. Indigo was stretched out on the port bench, fiddling with her camera.
“You know, I know [...]

Les GLENANS Raises Sail

March 15th, 2008 · No Comments

One of the most remarkable things about SLSailing is the large, talented, and extremely diverse community we share. I suspect that’s an important reason why most of us stay in SL Sailing, race after race, month after month. We feel enriched by the large number of world-wide friendships and resources that are so full [...]
