Fizz World Cup 2010: opening this saturday
The largest, and most difficult cup ever held in SL Sailing is back for its 3rd edition: this Saturday at 9.00 AM, first qualifying event for the Fizz Cup 2010, hosted by SRYC, with Jeremia Spotter as Race Director. The best of the best will be there, the top ranked in Fizz Rankings. This year, Liv Leigh, Fizz Cup Director, introduced two major innovations: the Cup takes place in double-handed mode, and for the first time it will use RRS rule-set. The qualifying will take place throughout the month of November, with more than 12 qualifying events, for a final on December 4. The system point of SLSA Rankings will be used to determine the 4 finalists. It promises to be a great show: all the best, super trained, trying to tame the most realistic SL boat to date, in terrifying winds at record speeds for Fizz (20 to 30 knots!). Here, no gestures, no phantom mode to go through islands or buoys, just the talent, dexterity, skill, tactical and navigation skills, in short, sailing. When we know the level of mastering technique, tactics and rules by Fizz Fanatics, it promises! Don’t miss it!

Double Handed Fizz – Rule Quiz
FLYING FIZZ WORLD CUP 2010 – The subscription form will be online in a couple of days. Double handed races…
One of the main task of the crew member will be to control the heel, in order the sails use wind most efficiently, and thus the speed increases. To do so, he will move his body weight as far to windward (upwind) as possible (HIKING), keeping the boat as flat as possible. By hiking, he will counteract the wind’s pressure and will avoid capsizing. Fine. Even if the Flying Fizz doesn’t allow trapeze (like Beach Cat does), she allows however the crew to lean back over the edge of the boat. May this “feature” used as a trick? May the crew member voluntary hike to avoid to be taken over by another boat? What do you think? Rule quiz! (write answers in comments please).
