Published by under Sailing for Life

Thanks so very much to all the sailors who have very graciously given of their time to help make the Marathon Sail a reality. Below is the listing by time of the folks who will be sailing. Epicurus Emmons will be sailing during the Survivor lap which is prior to the first lap on the graphic. The Google spreadsheet with the backup sailors and all the times is linked to below. Sail for Life Marathon Sail During Relay for Life

Edited 7/12: Latest News, follow this link : [slider title= "Update on Sail for Life Marathon Sail"]

I want to thank everyone who has signed up to sail in the Relay for Life Weekend Marathon Sail. I do want to make sure that everyone knows that there is NO charge for sailing during the Relay Weekend (although we will of course welcome your donations). This is the sailing community’s way to honor all those that are fighting this disease and those that we have lost… both friends here in Second Life as well as people in “Real Life”. Our sail is comparable to the efforts of those that will be walking the track at the Relay for Life sims in Second Life and those that will be making the walk in RL. If you have not yet signed up, and see a time that you are available, please sign up in the next couple of days.

If you have not yet heard, our own Epicurus Emmons will sail the Survivor Lap from 11 am to noon on Saturday. Come and cheer him on!

When you click through the link below, you will see a spreadsheet where individuals have indicated the times that they could sail. Some people were VERY generous with their time, others were only able to sign up for one time slot. I would LIKE to be able to have as many sailors as possible sail a one hour lap. If you are currently assigned to a time slot, then that time is highlighted in YELLOW on the spreadsheet. If you indicated that you COULD sail at more times, then I have highlighted those slots with BLUE indicating that you are a back-up sailor and might be called upon to sail. If you have NOT yet signed up, you can now see the open slots, I will update this spreadsheet frequently through this week. Thanks for taking the time to sign-up!

On July 17th and 18th, the Second Life Sailing Community comes together for Sail for Life as part of the Relay for Life fundraising weekend.  While many groups participating in the Relay for Life will relay by walking the track through the RFL sims, the sailing community has, since the inception of Relay for Life in Second Life, relayed by SAILING! (After all, it IS what we do.) We will pass our flag from one sailor to the next for the 24 hours of the weekend.  NOW is the time for you to sign up to participate in the 24 hour marathon sail.  The sign-up form is provided below.  Please sign up for one or more one hour time slots using this form. We will be in touch with you prior to the weekend to verify your participation and your time slot. We always need backup sailors, so if you are not the sailor for a time slot, we would hope that you would make yourself available as a backup. Due to the size of the water available, your selected boat should be no larger than an ACA. Please go to the form and sign-up TODAY!
