My trip to Egypt was wonderful beyond words, but I will try. Grin. I have uploaded the beginnings of a MarkTwain White in Egypt website. I encourage you to make use of the “comments” section you find throughout the site.
Now that the Tako Cup has concluded there are two excellent video presentations of the event. Surfwidow Beaumont has released a very nice video of the overall event on YouTube. You can find it at her SL Sailing YouTube site . This site can also be reached from our Blogroll in the right hand column. Or you can scroll down the posts and click on an embedded version on this site. There is also a broadcast of the Tako Cup Finals on Sail On, our weekly program on sailboat racing.
The USS-SL welcomes Waypoint Yacht Club. WYC is a club for Japanese and other Pacific Rim time zoned racers. They have a clubhouse in Santa Cruz sim and have translated a lot of USS-SL info into Japanese for their members. Their initial racing schedule will feature a regular regatta at 5am on Thursdays using the SYC start line. Taku Raymaker is the moving force behind this effort. Welcome Waypoint!
I am pleased to say that expansion of the USS-SL is still being planned in the background. We get several requests to expand the USS-SL each month, most of them turn out not to fit the master vision of a sailing community. However some do and these we talk to. Personally I would love to see Nantucket Yacht club in their own sim or sims. I also would love to see a connection made between the Sailor’s Cove area and the main body of the USS-SL.
Under treacherous SL conditions and unstable Linden seas, Armchair Binder today prevailed over Hans Zinnemann 3:1 to take the Tako Cup 2007 by a unanimous decision of the Race Committee.
The sea conditions today often made the final match more about survival skills than racing tactics. Over the next few days we’ll be posting many of the details, and watch for Surfwidow’s video of the final race, which will premiere here soon!
On Sunday November 11 beginning at 10AM SLT the 2007 USS-SL Tako Cup will be decided in a no holds barred battle between Scotland’s Favorite Son Hans Zinnemann and America’s hard drinking hard hitting Armchair Binder. You won’t want to miss the bone jarring nerve shattering clash between these two fierce competitors. Never in the entire history of the Tako Cup has such a matchup occured. It’s time to get your tickets now. The Class of the Tako Titans is about to be unleased on Second Life!
The finals will be broadcast live on our SAIL ON show on SLCN.TV.
An awards ceremony and party will follow shortly after the conclusion of the finals.
Hans Zinnemann and Armchair Binder will meet in the Tako Cup Finals this coming week (times to be announced). Armchair won his semifinal match against Francois Jacques 3-0. Hans Zinnemann won 3-1 against Svar Beckersted in a match that was a lot closer than the score indicates. Svar was DNF on one of Hans’ wins when he was unseated at a sim border. He recovered much to late to catch back up to Hans even if his empty boat had passed on the correct side of the top mark in the third race. The match very nearly went to a fifth race when Svar nearly caught Hans at the finish in race four.
Images of these two matches can be found in the Tako Cup Match Race Flickr set here.
