(1851 – 2008) ?
Do you remember ”The Passage Contest” hosted by MarkTwain White? Next week is the anniversary of the launch of these races that have brought us so much fun. The Tradewind had her finest hours, unfortunately quickly forgotten. For those who want to relive those moments of good old days, I invite you to read and see some videos here:

Some good memories, right? And if someone had the bright idea to celebrate this anniversary as it should? huh? Come on, a little effort. Please Mister White …
To whet the appetite, here is an article from Ocean Racing that revives some great moments in the history of sailing. (Click to enlarge/read)

SLVT 2nd Round of Quarterfinals – Sat. 14th

August, Saturday 7th: Last Saturday, Armano and Takabou have brilliantly qualified for the SLVT semifinals. Armano, unsurprisingly, dominated the debates and qualified in first place with 4 wins. Armano is the current leader of the SLSA ACA Rankings (15 entries, an average of 117 points). Note that Trapez (currently 3rd in the ACA rankings) was unfortunately unable to defend his chances, nor also Carmen, who was replaced by Astro to represent NYC. This does not detract from the merit of Takabou who finished second in this quarterfinal / round-robin 1 (with 3 wins, only 1 loss vs. Armano).

In semifinal, Armano will race against the skipper qualified in second rank following the round robin 2 on this Saturday. Takabou will race with the winner of the round-robin 2 to come.
August, Saturday 14th: On Saturday, therefore, are in competition: Amythest, Kazumah, LDeWell, Lynn and … Carmen who is back to represent NYC (Pairing below). If Amythest seems to be the favorite (currently occupying the second position in SLSA ACA Rankings with 13 participations and an average of 105 points), no doubt one may well be surprised at the view of the previous rounds.
Armano, being considered as one of the favorite in semifinals, let’s see if participants in this second round-robin will calculate in order to avoid to race with him in semifinal, or if their competitive spirit will prevail. (Indeed, this is surely inconsistent …).
Gentlemen, take your marks.

ACA and the Ranking system
ACA Management by 9th.com supports the new SLSA Rankings and offers assistance to Yacht Clubs, RDs and volunteers seeking to get involved. Read more on the ACA Racer blog:

To date, three ACA-class “graded events” are on the SLSA Rankings Calendar; Quirky, Don and Astro will host regular ACA regattas, the first of which will take place today Friday March 5 at 6 PM SLT.
The current ACA-class events in the SLSA Rankings Calendar are:
- Starting Friday March 5 at 6 PM SLT: bi-monthly graded events hosted by Quirky/NYC
- Starting Sunday 7th at 1 PM: weekly graded events hosted by Don/GGYC
- Starting Tuesday 16th at 4 PM: bi-monthly graded event hosted by Astro/NYC
Bea’s Note: To date, 12 RDs or YCs have pledged to hold regular races and the results will count towards the rankings. Flying Fizz, ACA, RCJ44 and Patchogue rankings have been launched. There is still lot of room for more races and classes to participate in the Rankings! The more volunteers we have, the more value there will be in the Rankings system – and the more respect you’ll show to the participants. More races also means more time zone coverage, allowing sailors to participate more easily. As they say, there is a time for words, one for actions – let’s get the ball rolling!
